Xiaomi Redmi 1S, The Unboxing

It's kinda a late to post a Redmi 1S since the phone itself has been launched for quite sometime in Malaysia. Understand that the version "1S" is an upgraded version from the original Redmi. 

The Redmi 1S is enhanced with better processor using Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.6 GHz instead of MediaTek 1.4Ghz. 

I had indeed purchased the set from Xiaomi Malaysia, out of curiosity. The price offered was so irresistibly tempting which I couldn't ignored. The normal price introduced is MYR419.00 However, the set that I bought was MYR459.00 with some goodies bundled. Let me list the additional items that comes together with the phone.

Additional goodies that comes along:

1) Additional Battery in individual plastic clip-on casing

2) Battery Charger (not the phone charger) x1

3) Soft Casing x1

4) Screen Protector x1

5) SIM card adapter x2

Unfortunately, such good deal IMHO will not to be repeated. Not sure whether Xiaomi M'sia will again provide such a bargain in future.

Let's get to the unboxing part.

The die-cut box packing was nicely and neatly packed and sealed with a very simple and yet elegant. No fancy coloured or outlines printed on the box. Just the corporate logo "MI" printed.  

Every individual items are properly packed in their respective packing materials.

I must say again the box material used for the phone shows its elegant of simplicity yet solid.

The phone fitted nicely at the top without plastic bag wrapper and comes with self-adhesive screen protector with a small die-cut paper puller to remove the top part discovering what's underneath.

What lies beneath was not what I had expected, though the whole packaging was really nitty gritty satisfying. In fact , a little disappointed with the items found below the phone. Notice anything amiss? Nope, not the phone charger. And what prompted me to the extend of clarifying the issue with Xiaomi Malaysia was even more disappointing. 

Where the heck is the earpiece? 

I thought they (Xiaomi) had missed that lil' piece in their assembly line and that's the only reason initiating myself to ask them whether my doubts is correct.

But it turns out to be untrue and yet disappointing. They told me the phone does not comes with the standard earpiece. If you need one, please purchase one from our website. WTH!!?? Can't Xiaomi be generously considerate to squeeze in just a little piece of earpiece??

Anyway, let's not be hoo-hah over some diminutive item. Let's turn to the phone itself

What's sealing off the camera lens was kinda a 'cheapo'. What it looks like a thinny layer of aluminium paper that doesn't stick to the lens and can be easily removed. 

The back cover has a non-glossy but matte with grainy texture surface which I personally liked as it act as firm grip while holding the phone.

On top part, there's nothing much except for an audio jack connectivity.

At the side, the power button (smaller button) and the volume rocker (longer button) and with a concave groove to pry open the back cover. While there are nothing on the other side.

Underneath the back cover is the bright orange colored Li-Ion battery with capacity of 2000mAh. It's a Dual Sim slots with WCDMA and GSM network. An external Mirco-SD memory card slot expandable up to 64GB.

On the far right near the camera lens is the tiny little speaker. 

After reviewing the phone for less than a week (three days to be exact), I had decided to sell-off the set. Not that the phone features and performance is upset-ting or disappointing. As a matter of fact the built quality was so solid that I felt its solidness while carrying it in my pocket. It's way too heavy! Well, I think I'm so used to using my H3C that pocketing this 4.7" phone compares to my 5" H3C felt unnecessarily heavier. The Redmi 1S weighs in at 158g compares to H3C 140g.
