Huawei Honor 3C

Huawei Honor 3C is equipped with 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6582 quad-core processor supported by 2GB(!!) of RAM with 8GB of internal storage.  This is the ultimate reason why I am still owning this little piece of gadget for my daily job tasking such as company's email, personal emails, Skype messaging and call, Whatsapp videos, audio messaging. The phone has never lags or hangs after months of use with heavy photos, videos and apps loading into it.
With the price of MYR499.00 which is an online price from Huawei Honor Malaysia
This is the best bargain anyone can grab which worth every penny he or she is paying for. Honor 3C is as smooth as butter due to the 2GB RAM. Better than my semi-retired Samsung Galaxy Note (1). Recently, Huawei introduced a downgraded version named Honor 3C lite, stripping off 1GB out of 2GB at much cheaper introductory price of MYR 399.00 but I would still prefers the non-Lite version.

Huawei Honor 3C has a 5-inch screen, which is reasonably (diagonal) sized to be fitted in my trouser's pocket without the odd bulging, anything larger than 5" in my opinion is a troublesome especially if you're those guys who dislike carrying a sling bag or man-purse around when you are on the move either sitting in your car driving, heck! I can still slides in the phone in my pocket without the uncomfortable feels or walks around the shopping mall with Honor 3C in my pocket without any burden because it feels light (weigh only 140grams).

Another feature worth mentioning is the LTPS display, which spells Low Temperature PolySilicon LCD. If you were to ask me what the heck is LTPS? Well, from laymen point of view, all I knew is the screen display is much clearer, crispier, sharper, (well..I guess you know what I mean) and if you really want to know more about LTPS, here's the link: What is LTPS?
Another note to the LTPS screen is that it does not get warm despite long usage unless you switch on the GPS, then the back cover will warm's up real quick!

Another feature that this phone has to offer is the waking up tap gesture when the screen is off. Unlike Iphone or Samsung Galaxy phone where it has a front button so that a user can conveniently, at a push of a button to wake up the screen, well...Huawei Honor 3C does not has such privilege, furthermore sometimes it is so inconvenient to use the side Power button to waking up or unlock the screen. Hence, Huawei has been kind enough to add this little feature to ease the waking up / unlocking process.

But a word of caution,

for those who dislike using a flipcover instead using just a back cover (like myself), somehow or rather, the screen will wakes up due to the intermittent contacts of the screen and our clothed skin. You might accidentally called someone while the handphone is still in the pocket or open up camera mode shooting black images. So, yeah...this is the disadvantage of activating the "double touch" feature. But then again, if yours is protected with a flipcover, it is a feature you must ON to enjoy it! It is just me minding the extra "wing" that needed to be flip open to answer a call.

Besides the tapping to switch on the black screen, another motion control is by swiping at any 4 directions to open up any apps pre-selected even when the screen is off.

Another feature is the Simple Home Screen style. This design is for someone who just want simplicity out of a smartphone, catering especially to elderly people who may had visually impairment hence larger-than-normal widget icons is practically suits their needs. I, personally had tried using the Simple Home Screen and it just felt uneasy with the big icons splashing all over the screen offsetting the beautiful wallpaper. No offence to the elderly.

Another superb reason for owning H3C is the battery life once charged to its fullest is able to give you a whole day productivity with the phone function without drying up in the middle of the day. I'm saying good-bye to my power bank for now. But do make sure, the power plan you are selecting is at "Smart" mode. Mine H3C is Wifi & 3G switch-on (always) from as early as 7.30 AM with my regular task such as reading emails, Skype, Whatsapp, some Internet surfing, some Googling, some Facebook-ing, receiving calls and some shooting with phone camera (oh yes! I use my phone camera almost everyday, work related though), and if you look at the battery percentage on the picture above, it still stands at 50% at 6:55 PM (same day).
However, I do hear some H3C owner having problem with wifi connection down despite their connectivity is ON. I suspect is the auto-power conservation setting under "Smart" mode that contributing to such issue. And do I face similar issue?

The answer is YES. But I can live with that. No big deal as long it reserve remaining juice in time of needs. :-)

Swype keyboard

Google Keyboard
Google keyboard is the standard keyboard however there is an option of switching over to Swype keyboard. But I'm beginning to prefer Google keyboard instead of Swype because Swype is starting to feel laggy. Laggy as in typing a word will show delayed response. Not sure the reason why but switching back to Google keyboard doesn't seem to have the problem.

Camera Photo Quality

Photo A: Steel Ruler Close-up
Photo A was taken using "Meter" instead of "Macro" mode. The available "Macro" is not your standard point and shoot mode instead it senses a rotating motion focusing on an object and will only automatically shoot the photo in "Macro" mode. End result is a "Macro" photo with .mav file which is not viewable on your standard OS. You need a special software reader to open the file on your PC. What's the purpose of having a .mav file? Beats me. So, whenever I'm trying to shoot close-up object, I will use the "Meter" mode.

Photo B: Colourful flowers
Photo C: Laughing Buddha with Dragon
Photo B was taken using "Smart" mode without flash in daylight. Photo C was taken with the same setting but outside open air on a bright sunny day. Smart mode according to H3C and I quote "Your phone will automatically enhance the photo quality based on your surrounding environment". This is the mode that I regularly used.
Another mode is the HDR photo. There are good and bad to HDR. No doubt the picture quality is optimised (the sharpness, the brightness, the clarity, the richness of the image) however, in order to shoot using HDR, one need to hold his/her breath without moving an inch (your hand holding the phone) after snapping the photo. The camera takes about 3 seconds before the image being actually captured. Should you try to shift the camera while it is still processing within that 3 seconds, the final result will have "free photoshopped" blurring effect.

Photo D: Washroom (Dimmed light area)
Photo D, still under the same "Smart" mode but was shot in low lumination confined area. The camera phone does not equip with "Night" mode, so obviously shooting around darker areas or during night time is not advisable to show off the H3C camera.
